SEO Tools & Resources
Every SEO needs a solid selection of tools and resources. Here’s a selection that we’ve used and recommend. Some are free and some are paid, but you’ll see that all of them are quality.

Advanced Web Ranking
We’ve struggled to find a cost effective solution that we could use across a range of clients until we encountered Advanced Web Rankings. A stand alone software package, we’ve installed it on our server and it works like a charm. Unlike many other products that we’ve tried (free & paid), AWR is consistently accurate and includes an interface that will help you get up to speed pretty quickly. In addition, there are a bunch of features that anyone would find helpful whether you’re an individual webmaster or agency serving clients.
Raven SEO
If you work with a small agency or any website of reasonable size, then you definitely should take a look at Raven SEO. This tool will give you the ability to stay organized and scale your efforts the way that any organized online marketer should. Some of the features you’ll enjoy are: Automated Reporting, Backlink Tracking, integration with Google Analytics and more. If you also work on the social side of things, Raven will help you manage and report on your social media marketing campaigns. Generally, I think that this tool is perfect for webmasters with a few sites and mid-sized agencies who are looking to save time.
SEMRush
Half the battle of SEO is understanding what your competitors are doing and SEMRush is incredibly helpful in providing insight. Get a list of up to 10,000 keywords for which you or your competitors are ranking to focus on those areas in which you need help. We’ve used this tool to uncover opportunities that have helped us move the needle for our clients, so we recommend it highly. That said, for some the recurring Pro Membership of $69.95 may be a bit pricey, so this may not be an option for a single-person operation. Regardless, you can give the “light” version a spin to see if it will do the job for you: SEM Rush

ScrapeBox
Mainly used as a blakhat spamming tool, Scrapebox can also be used as a whitehat time saver. The following tasks can all be accomplished via Scrapebox:
- Bulk PageRank checking
- Check to see if a list of URLs (still) contain your link
- Build a list of all of your (or a competitor’s) indexed pages
- Bulk check a list of URLs to see if they’re indexed in Google
- Build a list of pages that contain a specific keyword or words
You can also string these tasks together. So, for instance, if you were looking to find the “best” blogs in a specific vertical, you could…
- Scrape a list of URLs on WordPress blogs that mention a specific term or set of terms
- Trim that list to the root domain
- Remove all duplicates
- Check the PageRank of all the unique domains
- Check the number of internal and external links on each homepage
From there, you could just use excel to view only the blogs with a PR >3 and less than X outbound links on the home page. There you go – some high PR blogs that you should probably start networking with.
For a onetime fee of $97, it’s hard to beat all the time savers that are packed into this little tool. Find it here: Scrapebox
